INANE (International Number Allocation News Enterprise) was a public service that identified and logged numbers that are currently under-utilised and accordingly have spare capacity. This revolutionary service ran for about 9 months in 2002/2003 and was widely used for both academic and commercial uses.
During its operational period several studies showed that there had been a significant reduction in the amount of number congestion, which had previously slowed down advancements in industries as diverse as silicon manufacturing, telecommunications and public relations as well as academic areas of study including applied mathematics and molecular biology.
Unfortunately the service has now been mothballed after being classed as a potential threat by The Department Of Homeland Security. They have also confiscated the GNA (global number audit) algorithm and Bunsen Crawler that were used to identify numbers with spare capacity, and are reported to be using it in a covert role in the ongoing war against terror.
In the interests of historical research we are making available the numbers identified prior to the shut down of INANE. The last numbers collected are listed below and earlier numbers are under the 'archives' link.
